Roy W. Tracy, 82, Bridgeport, Illinois and formerly of Oblong, Illinois passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 3:45 a.m. at the Lawrence Community Health Care Center, Bridgeport, Illinois. Born in Oblong Township, Crawford County, Illinois on February 17, 1929, he was the son of George W. Tracy and Nellie M. Quick. He was a graduate of Oblong High School Class of 1946. He served with the U. S. Navy during W. W. II and Korea. Roy managed the Arndt’s Store in Newton, Illinois for 15 years; Tressler’s in Lawrenceville, Illinois and Vincennes, Indiana; Culligan Water Conditioning, Vincennes, Indiana and Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in the purchasing department. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Vincennes, Indiana; the Robinson VFW Post #4549; Jasper County School Board Member; Lawrenceville School Board Member; Boy Scouts; Sunday School teacher and choir member for many years. He volunteered at the Vincennes Senior Citizens for many years in the woodworking shop. Roy enjoyed woodworking, gardening and reading.
On February 19, 1950, he married Mary Ellen Riker, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Bev & Gary Reynolds, Bobbie Tracy and Becky & Chuck Austin; six grandchildren, Nathan Reynolds, Tracy Reynolds, Christine Reynolds, Megan Austin, Zachary Austin and Olivia Austin; one brother and sister-in-law, Randall & Amy Tracy; and two sisters, Martha Wampler and Juanita Stacko.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ralph Tracy and two sisters, Thelma Miller and Betty Roth.
Burial will be in the Shire Cemetery.
